Blackhaw Viburnum

One of the first trees to bloom on our property after the Redbuds is the
Blackhaw Viburnum.  I love the clusters of white flowers and the bees appreciate them too.

Yeah! It’s Friday!

Good morning and happy Friday!

The weekend is almost here and I am ready to relax.  Well, not really.  I have a long list of things that I need to do, but I still plan to make time to relax while working in the garden, or enjoying the wildflowers while running errands.  I may even enjoy a glass of wine or an ice-cold beer and watch the sunset.    When I found these cute earrings in Blanco the last time I was there , they reminded me of all these things.

I found these earrings at Brieger Pottery.     I attempted to find the company listed on the display paper.  I did not find any active sites, but I did find funbeadwork.com , which I think is the same person.

I hope you have a pleasant weekend,

Melyna

Texas wildflowers – Castilleja indivisa Engelm

I always look forward to spring in the Texas hill country.  Bluebonnets, Gaillardia, primroses, paintbrushes and so many more.  As we were driving along a rural road I spotted a yellow flower standing among hundreds of Scarlet Paintbrushes.  It was a first for me.  I had to go back and see if it was actually a yellow variation of the flower.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was and that there were several scattered throughout the area.

Greater Roadrunner

When one talks about Roadrunners, many of us have the image of that incredibly fast  bird from Saturday morning cartoons.  Around our house, Roadrunners represent the speedy daredevil that races across the road just in front of the car, or speeds along with a lizard dangling from its beak as it ducks under the fence.  Occasionally, one will fly over the fence or up into the low branches of trees.  One place we almost never consider  looking for one is in the tree tops.   We were working outside when I heard a low cooing sound. It was similar to a dove, but not quite right.  After a few minutes of searching, I found the owner of the voice.  This Roadrunner was sitting in the top of an old cedar elm tree cooing to his heart’s content.

To give you an idea of how high up in the tree he was:

This is it’s cooing posture :

A great website to find out more about the Greater Roadrunner is

This link also contains the many variations of calls
the Greater Roadrunner makes.

I apologize for the grainy pics.  This guy was very far up in the tree and I had my little Canon PowerShot SX 280HS with me.  It is easy to carry and I love the zoom capabilities.  Unfortunately it has never quite been the same since a trip to the coast a few years ago. Still the camera I  carry in my pocket most of the time.

Coffee Monday

Good morning!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are enjoying a cup of your favorite brew to start the work week.  If you need a little more inspiration, wearing these socks will remind you that Yes, You can Do It!  your coffee said so. 😉

I saw these socks in Blanco, Texas at Brieger Pottery.  You can also order directly from the manufacturer Blue Q.com

Dragon Thursday

Once again Pinterest led me to an interesting website.  This week it’s Art Gone Haywire.  The artist is Cory Carstens.  They have many different styles of wire art.  I especially like the dragons.

I love the detail.

Fun Finds in Blanco, Texas – March 2017

I meet my best friend and sister of the heart for lunch occasionally in Blanco, Texas.  One of our favorite places for lunch is the Redbud Cafe.  After a leisurely meal, we visit  Brieger Pottery which is located next door.  (Click on the links in blue to see a blog post from a couple of years ago about The Redbud Cafe and Brieger Pottery.)

On this trip we, of course, had to see what was new  in the Brieger Pottery store.  They carry  a lovely mix of pottery, handmade creations from local artists and more.  You will find pottery, jewelry, clothing, cards, a great selection of oil cloth patterns, and wind chimes, just to name a few.  Today I am focusing on pottery.

One of my favorite pieces are these pottery balls.  I took a photo of them a couple of years ago and always look for more when I visit the store.  On this trip I found a wonderful selection of pottery by this artist.

Yes, there were my cute pottery balls, but I immediately zeroed in on the faces. They are adorable.

If you get a chance to travel to the Texas Hill Country , take time to visit Blanco.  It is a lovely town.  Have lunch at The Redbud Cafe and browse through the pottery store next door.  Be sure to walk around the square and visit the other great places to shop and eat too.

Happy traveling,

Melyna
