Dragon Thursday

I recently visited Blanco to have lunch with my best friend.  We always visit Brieger Pottery and Blanco Gardens after lunch.   This week I found a wonderful surprise by one of my favorite artists,  Fraser Harris out of Buda Texas.

This is the first dragon I have seen in his work.  Even though it is Dragon Thursday I have to add one more tile to the post.

Love it.  If you get a chance, stop by Brieger pottery and check out all the wonderful pottery and gifts.

Yeah! It’s Friday!

Good morning and happy Friday!

The weekend is almost here and I am ready to relax.  Well, not really.  I have a long list of things that I need to do, but I still plan to make time to relax while working in the garden, or enjoying the wildflowers while running errands.  I may even enjoy a glass of wine or an ice-cold beer and watch the sunset.    When I found these cute earrings in Blanco the last time I was there , they reminded me of all these things.

I found these earrings at Brieger Pottery.     I attempted to find the company listed on the display paper.  I did not find any active sites, but I did find funbeadwork.com , which I think is the same person.

I hope you have a pleasant weekend,

Melyna

Fun Finds in Blanco, Texas – March 2017

I meet my best friend and sister of the heart for lunch occasionally in Blanco, Texas.  One of our favorite places for lunch is the Redbud Cafe.  After a leisurely meal, we visit  Brieger Pottery which is located next door.  (Click on the links in blue to see a blog post from a couple of years ago about The Redbud Cafe and Brieger Pottery.)

On this trip we, of course, had to see what was new  in the Brieger Pottery store.  They carry  a lovely mix of pottery, handmade creations from local artists and more.  You will find pottery, jewelry, clothing, cards, a great selection of oil cloth patterns, and wind chimes, just to name a few.  Today I am focusing on pottery.

One of my favorite pieces are these pottery balls.  I took a photo of them a couple of years ago and always look for more when I visit the store.  On this trip I found a wonderful selection of pottery by this artist.

Yes, there were my cute pottery balls, but I immediately zeroed in on the faces. They are adorable.

If you get a chance to travel to the Texas Hill Country , take time to visit Blanco.  It is a lovely town.  Have lunch at The Redbud Cafe and browse through the pottery store next door.  Be sure to walk around the square and visit the other great places to shop and eat too.

Happy traveling,

Melyna

Coffee Monday

Good morning!

I have ran posts in the past about my visits to Blanco, Texas. It is the half way point for my sister/best friend and I to meet for coffee, lunch, dessert and more coffee.  We usually stop at the Redbud Cafe (which we did), but we also found a new to us coffee house called The Bean & Biscuit.

We were immediately drawn to the colorful and welcoming exterior.  The interior is bright, clean and filled with art .   It has the feel of an internet cafe, with patrons sitting at  the tables by the windows drinking coffee and working on their laptops.

The room that I call the reading nook at The Bean & Biscuit. You can see another small room and table to the back.

The room that I designated the reading nook has an atmosphere that invites one to sit, relax, read or visit in a more intimate space.

The menu includes sweets, quiche, sandwiches and various specialty coffee drinks. The lunch special of the day when we were there was chili.

We had planned on eating at the Redbud Cafe so we decided to come back for coffee and dessert.   When we returned I chose a cinnamon roll.

I love the hearty sweet dough and the sweet cinnamon filling .  I also chose a plain coffee.  The coffee is self serve as are the pastries, which you can see in the photos.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience and will be trying it again on one of our future visits to Blanco.

We cannot come to Blanco without stopping at the Redbud Cafe and Brieger Pottery. Today we enjoyed their portabella burger for my vegetarian friend and my nod to a low carb diet was satisfied with the Angus blue cheese burger sans the bun.  I have not been strict about my diet throughout the holidays and decided to enjoy myself and have a chocolate chip  pecan cookie with my coffee.  Definitely not low carb, but oh so yummy.   In the photo you can see a box of coconut macaroons. My family says that these are the best they have ever had and request that I bring them whenever we visit.

Road Trip June 08, 2015 to Blanco Texas

Yesterday I took a road trip to Blanco, Texas to visit my sister of the heart.  We have been friends for forty years. So, yes, she is my sister.  As often as we can manage, we meet for breakfast.  We picked Blanco because we like the town, it has a good feel and it is between where we both live.  This week we decided to eat at the Redbud Cafe  market & pub.

Exterior of Redbud Cafe & PubThey serve a breakfast (brunch) on Sunday.  They  have Quiche and croissants and sweets for breakfast the rest of the week.  Here is a link to their Menu.  We met about 10:45 and opted for lunch instead.  We have had coffee and dessert here several times but today I felt like trying something different.  My friend is vegetarian and they have a nice selection of options to choose from.  We both had the hot portabella mushroom sandwich.  I had fresh fruit with mine and she had their homemade coleslaw.  Unfortunately I did not get photos of the food.  We were too busy talking and sharing photos and stories of what has been happening in our lives and eating.  I forgot, but it was delicious.

They serve specialty coffee drinks as well at the self serve coffee bar with their own Redbud blend and today they had a Brazilian blend as well.  If you prefer real half and half in your coffee, they have it.  (I am very happy about this myself)

The Cafe is directly across from the courthouse on the square.  You can sit outside and chat with passersby or just enjoy the fresh air.
