Dragon Thursday for you crafty dragons

Good morning!

I have many friends who create amazing things with yarn. Some knit, some crochet, many do both.  I am the cheering section that Ohhhs and Ahhhs over their creations.

These same friends have shared some fun dragon inspired patterns they have found online.   You may find them  here, here and, here

This week my friend Andrea shared this dragon inspired yarn.  

It is called Venti Dragon Mocha.  I found it online at   Madelinetosh.com

The first one is

The other is 

Tosh Merino Light | Venti Dragon Mocha

These yarns are 100% Merino wool.  The Tosh Merino Light is dyed by hand in Texas from wool ethically sourced in South Africa.  The DK Twist is dyed by hand in Texas from wool ethically sourced in Peru.  Both are dyed to order.

These are beautiful and I love the dragon name.  The colors remind me of a woodland dragon.

This weeks Dragon Thursday is for all of you crafty people, knitters in particular.  My friend Christine shared this pattern with me a while back and I came across it again yesterday.  The pattern is a design by author Kim Harrison.  You may be familiar with her urban fantasy, paranormal series, The Hollows featuring Rachel Morgan – bounty hunter and witch.  It is a fun series.  The dragon is actually inspired by her character, Peri Reed, who also knits, in  The Peri Reed Chronicles .

So she created this pattern for a knitted Dragon.  Adorable, right?! Click on the photo and it will take you to her website.  You will find more information and videos she created to help you create this awesome dragon.

I also found a link on ravelry.  I really want the blue and white dragon!

I have decided to learn to knit.  I love outdoor things like gardening and hiking, so this was an idea that I had entertained, but never really pursued.  It is a bit frustrating (as I was warned it would be), but like any thing, else, it takes practice and patience.

I went to Pinterest to look for information for beginner knitters and leapfrogged to this tumblr blog Queer-Knits  because they had a Pinterest link to a great Sea dragon shawl by Ambah O’Brien.

Inspired by sea creatures real and imagined, the Sea Dragon Shawl is knit from side to side, with short rows forming a shallow crescent shape. Its comfortable proportions are perfect for wrapping around the neck scarf-style or wearing around the shoulders. Choose between a small or large Sea Dragon Shawl and showcase your favourite yarn: go crazy with your leftover yarn stash and knit each segment in a different colour, use a gradient or variegated yarn, or go with your favourite solid colour combination.

Suitable for adventurous beginners, techniques include: simple short rows, picking up stitches, simple increases and decreases.

It states that the pattern is suitable for adventurous  beginners.  I am not there yet, but some day. 🙂
