Dragon Thursday

I was sitting at the computer yesterday thinking about dragons and our perception of them which led to thoughts of dragons in popular culture.

One of the first dragons I remember is Puff the Magic Dragon from the Peter, Paul and Mary song from my childhood.  I have a dragon music box that I bought almost forty years ago that plays that song.  The music is a little slower after forty years of playing Puff the Magic Dragon, and that is ok.  ❤

Of course there is Smaug from The Hobbit and Falkor from The Neverending Story. Toothless from The How to Train Your Dragon movies  and Haku from Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away,

Plus who wouldn’t love a dragon with Sean Connery’s voice – Draco from Dragonheart.

There are many, many more, and we haven’t even scratched the surface on all of the book dragons out there.   I am leaving links to three sites that explore Dragons in Pop Culture for you to enjoy.

Dragon Thursday

Last night I went in search of dragon coffee mugs.  There are many styles , sayings and types of dragons to choose from.  I happened across this one (I really like the glasses):

It is called Ravenclaw Dragon and the artist is Shaneisadragon.  They have a large selection of dragon themed art, plus a section titled Autistic Pride/Neurodiveristy

Spectrum Infinity Dragon

and an extensive LGBTQIAP+ pride collection.

About Shaneisadragon from their Redbubble profile:

“Hi, I’m Shane 🙂 I’m a young queer autist trying to figure out life. Sometimes I create things. If one of them happens to be a digital art/design thing, you may find it here.

There are now several LGBTQIAP+ pride collections. I want to be fully inclusive, so if you don’t see your identity represented, please feel free to bring it to my attention!

Also: the paw print, butterfly, owl, cat, bat, wolf, unicorn, and dragon pairs are now available in many identity combinations, but if yours isn’t one of them, you can request it by messaging me here or at shaneisadragon.tumblr.com/ask. I will also make combinations of 3-4 upon request!”

Dragon Thursday

I decided to search for dragons on Etsy this week.  I saw several fun stores with interesting and unique dragon products.   With summer ending and the baking season approaching, this one caught my eye.
I always loved the rolling pins that my grandmother used.  They were utilitarian and well worn from many years of baking.   I now have her rolling pins as well as my great grandmothers and my moms.  When I found these whimsical rolling pins on Etsy, I was delighted.  I could just imagine all of the fun cookies and pastries that could be created with these.

The store is called Dough Roller.  It is a small family owned business near Vilnius, Lithuania.   Dough Roller logoThis wonderful dragon design is just one of many they have in their store.  I also love the Coffee Style themed roller.  Plus there are some Folk and Flower themes, Holidays, Movies, Cats,  Dog themes… Okay.  I found many that I would love to have.  Be sure to click on the logo above and find your favorite rolling pin.

Enjoy,

Dragon Thursday

Good morning,

Once again Pinterest led me to a most interesting web store  I found a link to this dragon scarf.   Beautiful.  The artist /designer has a collection of scarves depicting dragons drawn in several styles.  They are all gorgeous. The store can be found on Etsy and it is called My Dragon Spirit.  The artist calls the dragon on the scarf below a phoenix dragon.  I did not see this particular scarf available on her store but there are many other phoenix dragon scarves as well as several other designs that are equally as beautiful.

My dragon spirit iusa_400x400.40762585_db79Here is more about the owner/designer from her About section on her store:

A touch of magic in your everyday life.

I have always been fascinated with the worlds of fantasy and fairy-tales. With places where imagination can run free and nothing is impossible.

With My Dragon Spirit I wanted to creature something special and unique. To awaken your child’s dreams of being that special little princess who is protected by her dragon or to be a little warrior who fights side by side with a dragon friend. Don’t forget that you are never to old to have fun and to run into your fantasy world.

All designs you see in my shop are my original artworks and each one of them tells its own visual story. They are delicately hand drawn with an ink and after perfecting each detail the image is carefully scanned and prepared for digital printing on fabric. It is not just a fashion. They are little guardians who will help you see the world through the eyes of mystery and wonder. So put the scarf over your shoulder and fly to your next fairy-tale adventure.

These are a must see. Click over to My Dragon Spirit and find your favorite dragon

Last week I shared some wonderful Fruit Dragon art by Lauren of Iguanamouth

I took a tour of their site and they have so much cool art.  I found a section titled Collections

One that caught my eye was called Unusual Dragon Hoards

These look to be mostly commissioned pieces and they are awesome.   There are six pages in this collection and there are so many that I love.  I chose this one because it reminds me of an author that I associate with squirrels and thought – Oh, I have to tag Freddy with this.  😀  Some of the hoards are whimsical, a couple are risque but they are all fun.  Take some time to look around and visit their shop:

Dragon Thursday

Good morning!

Today is a combination of Dragon Thursday with a definite nod to Coffee Monday.

This Dark Roast Blue Dragon mug is available at ThinkGeek and is on sale now!  (Click the ThinkGeek logo below)  Aside from being a very cool design, it holds 20 ounces of coffee.  Perfect way to start the day.  The blue on the dragon is actually a bit darker than the photo.  I couldn’t seem to get the lighting right.  The coffee was great and I felt fierce drinking it. 😉

All Natural Arts – Clockwork Dragon

I saw a post on Facebook this week of a clockwork dragon.  Really – a dragon made out of recycled watch parts.

Created by Sue Beatrice. Made entirely out of old watch parts.

From her Facebook page:

There’s a new dragon hatchling at All Natural Arts! This little fella is part of a commission and you will see the final piece posted in a few days.
The “skin” of his wings is made from the waxed parchment used to wrap watch parts for sale in the late 1800’s. Most of the parts used are also from that time period or earlier.

Check out her Facebook page for more of this unique art.

Dragon’s Lair Garden Update

A few of months ago I posted a couple of blogs about a plant kit I bought called Dragon’s Lair.  It came with a cute container and seeds to grow Dragon trees and Black Dragon Coleus.  The last post showed the coleus sprouting nicely.

Unfortunately I do not get enough sun in my house and I set them on the porch and forgot to bring them in.  Being summer, they promptly died.  The Dragon tree which is a Dracaena of some sort never sprouted.  The package said it may take up to twenty days.

I replanted the coleus and the Dracaena and the coleus came up quickly.  They were looking good and once again I set them on the porch with good intentions.  The thunder storm that blew through had other ideas and the poor little seedlings were scattered about.  The Dragon tree seeds showed no indication that they were even thinking of sprouting.  I think they may have been bad seeds.

So, I ordered Black Dragon Coleus seeds.  Planted them in seed trays and grew them in the potting shed.  These came up beautifully.  I put the little seedlings in the container and soon realized they would quickly out grow it.

Eventually I had to re-pot the plants into a larger container.  The dragon now has his lair, even though it wasn’t exactly the one we were aiming for.
